European distributed research infrastructure ACTRIS (Aerosol, Clouds and Trace Gases Research InfraStructure) performs long-term measurements of aerosol, clouds, trace gases in the atmosphere and provides information about the processes that cause the variability of these constituents. Users have a free access to high-quality data produced by ACTRIS as well as an opportunity for open access to research platforms and laboratories.
Owing to a frequent occurrence of low clouds (fog) at the Milešovka top and the related research activities, in 2020 we were invited to include the Milešovka observatory in the newly established ACTRIS component „Cloud In Situ (CIS) Measurements“. In the end of 2022, we participated with our instrument PVM-100 for measurement of the liquid water content and the cloud droplet effective diameter in the intercomparison campaign organized by the CIS topical centre at the Sonnblick observatory in the Austrian Alps.
The Czech participant in ACTRIS is the Large Research Infrastructure ACTRIS-CZ, coordinated by the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute. The partners are the Institute of Chemical Process Fundamentals of the CAS, Global Change Research Institute of the CAS, RECETOX centre from the Faculty of Science of the Masaryk University, and since 2023 also our Institute of Atmospheric Physics of the CAS. ACTRIS-CZ is financially supported by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MEYS) of the Czech Republic (project LM2023030).
Main objective of our participation in ACTRIS-CZ is establishment and long-term operation of a CIS Observational Platform at Milešovka, which will be able to pass an evaluation process and then obtain a label that it meets the ACTRIS standards. At present, we use the MEYS financial support primarily for adaptations at Milešovka and for necessary preparatory works before launching the new long-term measurement programme.
