Vědecké aktivity – fyzika a aeronomie ionosféry, dlouhodobé trendy v systému ionosféra-atmosféra, vztahy Slunce-Země, dopad kosmického počasí a atmosférických vln na ionosféru, ozón a střední atmosféra. Autor/spoluautor více než 320 odborných publikací a 450 odborných referátů

Mezinárodní aktivity – IAGA: viceprezident 1999-2003, nyní místopředseda pracovní skupiny II.F „Dlouhodobé trendy v mezosféře, termosféře a ionosféře“. COSPAR: člen COSPAR Council, předseda národního komitétu COSPAR. SCOSTEP: člen národního komitétu, spolupředseda VarSITI WG-3 (douhodobé trendy v MLT oblasti). Evropská geovědní unie (EGU): byl sekretář pro ionosféru. Člen EGU, AGU a AOGS. Organizátor/spoluorganizátor více než 30 mezinárodních konferencí, symposií a seminářů. Byl člen panelu European Research Council pro projekty mladých vědců. Podílel se na mnoha mezinárodních projektech.

Editorská činnost - Šéfredaktor časopisu Advances in Space Research (Elsevier/COSPAR) od 2010 do 2013, nyní co-editor. Guest-editor více než 15 speciálních čísel různých mezinárodních časopisů, editor sekce Geofyzika a geochemie UNESCO encyklopedie EOLSS.
